From Our Family's Farm to Your Family's Table

Pasture-raised foods you can eat with confidence

Meet us at Pinehurst Farm

Do you want to know what your family is eating and where it came from? If you've become as frustrated with inhumane, industrial beef and pork production as we have, and you've learned the selections at traditional grocery stores are expensive, over-graded, unsatisfying and likely processed at foreign-owned mega-factories, injected with unlisted preservatives, medications, vaccines, hormones and who-knows-what, then force-fattened at massive, unsanitary feed lots, you'll understand why Pinehurst Farm decided to focus our approach on producing ethical, clean, mRNA and vaccine-free Wagyu-cross beef and heritage Meishan pork that lives it's entire low-stress life on open pastures and never in cages or factory feed lots.

At Pinehurst Farm, we decided we wanted to know what we eat, and the best way to do that was to raise our cattle and pigs ourselves, from birth to maturity and produce clean, high quality beef and pork at an affordable price.  If you feel the same way, we're here to help!

Our family acquired Pinehurst Farm in 1984 and we have raised livestock there on and off since that time.  Around 2020, during a time when Pinehurst was not running any livestock, the family discussed and decided to acquire some beef cattle.  Upon taking delivery of those initial Red Angus heifers in 2021, we determined we would forego traditional veterinary protocols and focus on raising our cattle as naturally as we could.  No hormones, no vaccines and no antibiotics with plenty of sunshine, fresh water and open pastures.  This decision was met with some skepticism, but many were awakening to the reality that not all is what it seems.  And, because domesticated cattle had lived for thousands of years without medical intervention, we figured cattle could live for a thousand more years, especially if handled gently and humanely, in a low-stress environment.  So far, this has proven to be the case.

Commercial cattle are also typically fattened quickly before being shipped to feed lots "to finish."  We decided we'd rather keep our cattle on pasture for up to 30 months, where they could "finish" more naturally, allowing marbling to naturally move into the muscle.  This also proved to be a good move, as the marbling on our Red Angus Steers was fantastic.

Next, we wanted to ensure the beef cattle we produced consistently delivered high-grade marbling.  To do that, we bred our Red Angus Heifers to a Japanese breed often known as "Red Wagyu."  Red Wagyu is prized for its consistent intra-muscular marbling and its rich monounsaturated fat content (especially oleic acid), a lower melting point for a buttery texture, intense, fine marbling, and a profile high in healthy fats like CLA, contributing to its rich umami flavor and tenderness.  We believe the results have been excellent.

We selected our pork with a similar level of discernment.  The pigs we selected are an ancient heritage breed called "Meishan."  Meishan as a distinct breed have been found to have originated in the Taihu region of China over 5,000 years ago - one of, it not the, most ancient domesticated pig breed in the world.  Meishan are characterized as a small to medium-sized pig, weighing 375-400 pounds at maturity.  Meishan are also somewhat unique as they are pasture-grazers, rooting substantially less than other pig breeds.

Meishan pork is prized for its rich, deeply marbled, dark red meat, often called the "Kobe beef of pork," (although, to be fair, several other pork breeds make this same claim) offering exceptional tenderness, succulence, and a rich, steak-like flavor with a subtle sweetness, contrasting with leaner commercial pork. Its superior fat quality (lard) is lighter, finer, and renders at lower temperatures, creating melt-in-your-mouth texture and enhancing baking and cooking, making it a gourmet delicacy.

Like our cattle, our Meishan's spend their days on pasture, feasting on grasses, and clover with plenty of sunshine and fresh water and free from any unnatural medical interventions.  Pinehurst Farm aims for an stress-free and humane environment, for all lour livestock, and these pigs are no exception.

In the end, the goal of Pinehurst Farm is to proved our customers with ethically raised, uniquely clean, flavorful and healthy choices that you'll want you to keep coming back for.
